Principles for Education Employers

As an employing body, Paramus Public Schools adheres to the following principles to ensure fair, ethical, and legally compliant employment practices.

Paramus Public Schools is committed to maintaining compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and to upholding affirmative action principles throughout all recruitment and hiring activities. This commitment includes, but is not limited to, the following practices:

  • Equitable Selection Practices: Regularly reviewing selection criteria to identify and address any potential adverse impact on protected groups as defined by EEO and ADA regulations.
  • Appropriate Recruitment Inquiries: Avoiding the use of impermissible or non-job-related inquiries during the recruitment and selection process. This includes, but is not limited to, requests for candidate photographs or information related to marital status, parental status (including number of children), sexual orientation, physical, mental, or medical limitations, age, race, or religion. Application materials and interview questions are reviewed and revised as necessary to ensure they contain only job-related inquiries.
  • Compliance Oversight: Investigating and addressing any concerns related to EEO and/or ADA non-compliance that are referred to the district, and taking appropriate steps to resolve such matters in a timely and responsible manner.
  • Accurate Position Information: Providing clear, accurate, and timely information regarding employment opportunities to ensure candidates can make informed decisions.
  • Ethical Hiring Practices: Refraining from any practice that may improperly influence a candidate’s employment decision, including undue pressure to accept an offer within an unreasonable timeframe or encouragement to withdraw from another employment offer. Employment professionals strive to communicate hiring decisions within established timelines, and the district remains accountable for employment offers made by its representatives.
  • Confidentiality of Candidate Information: Safeguarding the confidentiality of all candidate information, regardless of the source, including placement or credential files, personal knowledge, written records, and electronic databases. Candidate information is not disclosed to any individual or organization without the candidate’s prior written consent, except where disclosure is required by law or necessary to address health or safety concerns.
  • Written Employment Offers: Providing candidates with written employment offers that clearly outline the terms and conditions of employment, including, but not limited to, the position, salary, anticipated start date, and term of employment.

Through these principles, Paramus Public Schools reinforces its commitment to equity, transparency, and integrity in all employment practices.
